A root canal treatment is intended for teeth that cannot survive with just a tooth filling. Sometimes, decay, a defective filling, trauma or a crack can allow bacteria to travel down the canals of the tooth and cause an infection. A root canal treatment involves highly specialised equipment to clear the bacteria and remove the infection. Depending on which tooth is treated, here at Midway Dental we may recommend a crown to cover the tooth as it becomes slightly weak. This will reduce the risk of further damage, cracks and loss of tooth. In some cases, root canal treatment will be recommended before symptoms have developed. This can be determined with findings on digital radiographs.
This appointment removes the pain and/or infection affecting the tooth. After numbing the tooth and the area around it, we access the canals of the tooth, carefully place dressing medications and seal the tooth with a temporary filling.
This appointment requires more time and care and involves thoroughly cleaning, shaping and rinsing the canals of the tooth with appropriate medicaments. Again, we place dressing medications and seal the tooth with a temporary filling.
This appointment represents the final stage of the root canal treatment. Here, we fill the canals of the tooth with a biocompatible material known as Gutta Percha and seal the tooth with a permanent filling.
Please note, in most cases, Appointment 2 and 3 can be combined in one appointment depending on the state of the tooth. And in rare cases, more than three appointments may be required.
All our dentists share a deep interest in painless root canal treatment. There is a common misconception root canal treatments can be painful but at Midway Dental Clinic we are well-trained and extremely skilled in providing quality and painless root canal treatment. The following are some of the ways we make this experience as painless as possible:
All our dentists provide skilled root canal treatment.
You may choose to either monitor the tooth and symptoms (if present), or remove the tooth in which you will need to consider replacement tooth options such as dentures, bridges and implants.
As with all health-related procedures, there can be complications associated with root canal treatment. Your dentist will take the time to discuss those complications related to your case. Root canal treatment lasts 5-10 years on average. However, with proper care and maintenance, root canal treatment can last over 25 years.
If you hold private health insurance, we will provide you with an on-the-spot HICAPS quote to determine your out-of-pocket expense.
If you do not hold private health insurance, a root canal treatment will typically range from $950 to $1750 depending on the tooth and number of canals.
