What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported Dentures use Mini Dental Implants (or MDIs) to provide greater stability to those who:

The use of Mini Dental Implants has allowed current removable dentures to achieve much greater stability compared to the constant use of denture adhesives/glues and need for relines.

What are Mini Dental Implants?

Mini Dental Implants (or MDIs) are small-sized titanium or titanium alloy implants approximately 2mm in width (full-sized implants are 4-5mm in width). This means implant placement can still occur in patients where there is less than ideal bone width which usually occurs in the lower jaw. Generally, either 2 or 4 MDIs are placed in the lower jaw so the denture can essentially “snap on” and still be removable.

How do Implant-supported Dentures work?

The MDI system involves metal housings with rubber O-rings incorporated into the undersurface of a denture “snapping onto” the implant heads shaped like a ball which protrude out of the gum. This will mean the denture is locked into place as the implants carry the full load of the denture and the denture rests gently on gum tissue.
